Four new judges takes SC strength to 30
The Supreme Court today bolstered it's strength by adding 4 new judges to it's roster. Justices Abhay Manohar Sapre, R Banumathi, Prafulla Chandra Pant and Uday Umesh Lalit assumed charge as Supreme Court judges taking the Supreme Court judges strength to a total of 30.
Justice Pant is 62 yrs old and was the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
Justice Sapre is 59 yrs old and was the Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court.
Justice Bhanumati is 58 yrs old and was the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. With her induction there are now two female Supreme Court judges including Justice Ranjana K. Desai.
Justice UU Lalit , 58 yrs old, was the special prosecutor in the 2G spectrum scam case and would be the second person after Rohinton F. Nariman, former Solicitor General, to become an apex court judge from the bar in the recent history.
